Head Start PreK

Aloha DKIES Families,

The Head Start Preschool Inclusion Classroom is currently engaging in Distance Learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic and has not yet returned to In-Person learning for the SY 2020-2021. Dually enrolled students will go to their Seesaw classroom to access the weekly Head Start Lesson Plan and then participate at "Zoom School" for circle time activities, individualized instruction, and small group learning.

Visit the Head Start PreK Inclusion website for more information.

This year, our partnership together will make a difference in the education of your keiki!

Thank you,
Terri Smith

Head Start programs prepare America’s most vulnerable young children to succeed in school and in life beyond school. To achieve this, Head Start programs deliver services to children and families in core areas of early learning, health, and family well-being while engaging parents as partners every step of the way.

Head Start is a federally funded program that provides quality services to qualifying children and their families. From their humble beginning as a summer project in 1965, they have grown to become the largest early childhood program in the State of Hawai'i serving over 1,500 children and their families each year.

Daniel K. Inouye Elementary School began a partnership with Head Start and opened our first inclusive PreK classroom in SY 18-19.  Students are identified through the Head Start application process.  Students with IEPs are dually enrolled in both Head Start and Daniel K. Inouye Elementary School.
