Aloha DKIES 'Ohana,

This month, we begin the first of many parent engagement and professional development sessions which we will call The Brood Patch. Each word carries its own significant meaning and together they highlight the intentional and focused energy of a parent to care and nurture their young, specifically EAGLES!

Our Brood Patch sessions will be facilitated by school partners who seek to engage and educate our broader community, specifically parents of students at DKIES, on topics which align with our Learning Principles and Beliefs.

We believe...

All students can learn ~ Therefore, we address individual strengths and needs by using a variety of teaching strategies.
Instruction should be rigorous and relevant ~ Therefore, we provide instruction based on big understandings and essential questions.
Assessment should be ongoing and authentic ~ Therefore, we use data from multiple assessments to impact instruction and measure learning.
A safe and nurturing environment is essential for learning ~ Therefore, we promote caring and respectful relationships.
Education is a community responsibility ~ Therefore, we encourage our families and community to be active in fulfilling our school's Vision and Mission.
Here are two opportunities this month:

1. April 2, 1:00-2:00pm in Q207/208

The Family Advocacy Program (FAP), a program within USAG – Hawaii Army Community Services, is preparing to conduct a focus group regarding the USAG Hawaii Child Supervision Policy. Focus groups consist of a small group of individuals, no more than 12 participants, who answer standardized questions about the USAG Hawaii Child Supervision Policy, Policy Memorandum #12. Your input will assist the FAP in deciding whether the USAG Hawaii Child Supervision Policy, Policy Memorandum #12, is in need of updates or if it is working and should remain the same.

*To RSVP for a focus group, please contact 808-655-0533 or email: [email protected]. See the attached memo to learn more.

2. April 10, 8:15-9:15am in Q207/208

Join our School Based Behavioral Health Specialist, Ms. Bookmyer, as she provides instruction on Jesse Lewis’ Choose Love Movement. She will highlight activities and discussions families can have at home and also touch on the topic of Never Shaking a Keiki to Prevent Child Abuse. To reserve your spot, please email Ms. Bookmyer at [email protected].

We hope you will be able to join us!
