Sharing Aloha

Aloha DKIES Families,

We are in week five of enrichment learning! We love connecting with you and want to offer our support not only for academic needs but to foster whole-child and social-emotional learning for your child.

Please check out our counseling support site for tips on a variety of resources such as mindfulness topics for your child. The counseling support site is located under our Continuity of Learning tab at www.dkies.org.

May Day in Hawai’i is held on May 1st of each year and is a statewide celebration of the Aloha Spirit and the giving of the flower lei. Our resource team has planned enrichment activities and May Day surprises throughout the week. Go to our Continuity of Learning tab and explore our Sharing Aloha and Resource Programs tabs.

To start the week off, let’s spread a little aloha by making and sharing a lei! We hope that you will create a lei and share it with us! You can draw it or make it out of material at home. Please visit Mrs. Grunenberg’s web page for lei making ideas. Here’s a document that you could print of a lei lesson: May Day Activity: Share a little aloha by making and sharing a lei

You can share your lei with our whole school via Technology in two ways:

  1. Post a Flip Grid Video of you holding your lei drawing or wearing your lei.
Go to https://flipgrid.com/maydaylei and add your video.
    Use this password: dkies2020

  2. Parents may email a picture of your lei or a picture of you wearing your lei to our Art teacher Mrs. Grunenberg at lagrunenberg@inouye.k12.hi.us and we will post it to our Flip Grid Video. Include your name, room #, and grade level.

We hope you have a great week and we will continue to stay in touch during this time.

Sincerely,

Your DKIES Resource Teachers
